Winter Knitty Ideas

There are some fun things in the current Knitty issue.
Like these Larus & Ardea fingerless gloves knit in Cascade 220. Each glove takes 1 skein and about 12 yds of a contrasting colour. At $7 a skein what a great deal!

Then there are these hilarious Fish Hats that can be knit in any worsted weight like cascade 220, Manos del Uruguay wool or Mission Falls yarns.

Gwenedd, in Berocco Ultra alpaca, is a stunning cable scarf that could be done in any worsted weight yarn.

Also check out Maja that is done in Manos del Uruguay Silk Merino.

Go on over and be inspired! Remember that all yarns can be substituted for a yarn of a similar weight!

December Newsletter

It is hard to believe that it is December already!!!
This weekend we are hosting a Christmas Prep weekend. There will be at
least 10% off everything all weekend and door prizes.

On Saturday Dec.6th you can come in and have a look at what is in stock
and make your wish list to give to family and friends. While you are in
you can pick up a mini stocking kit for $4.99 and relax with some cider
and treats while you get going on it. The kit has enough yarn to make 3
mini stockings that are great for tree ornaments or gift adornment. It
is also a great time to pick up some of the chunkier yarns for quick
last minute scarves and hats for gifts.

On Sunday Dec. 7th you can send in your family and friends with your
wish list and Vickie and I will help them find what you want. Also
available are gift certificates in any denomination. While your loved
ones are shopping for you why not join Miranda at 3 Steps Up Coffee
House at 840 Brock St. N. to knit and have a coffee. It is a quaint
little shop and Miranda is hosting a Sit N Knit there every Sunday Morning.

New yarn: Manos del Uruguay wool and silk wool. Beautiful fair trade
yarn from Uruguay that is perfect for a luxurious scarf or sweater.

Accessories: Louise Sparrow project bags are the perfect way to carry
your WIPs. Smaller Christmasy bags are $9.99 and would make perfect
reusable wrapping. Larger bags are $14.99.
There is currently a large selection of Nature's Wonders handmade
wooden sweater, shawl pins and buttons are also in and would make a
perfect adornment to go with any shawl or to use on a sweater. (Could
make a lovely Stocking Stuffer!)
There are a few of Debra's Garden lovely aluminum needle gauges still in
so make sure to pick one up soon.

Kniterary and Hedgehog Stitchery now have our own shopping bag for
sale! The cost is $9.99. You will get 10% all items purchased at the
same time as the bag purchase.

I would like to let everybody know that my Brainwave piece has been
accepted with an Honorable Mention into the Station Gallery
Members Show that starts on
December 6th. Make sure to make it down to the Station Gallery to check
it out as well as the wealth of creativity that exists in our area. I
will be rushing out of our store celebration to be a part of the
presentations at 1PM on Saturday but I will be rushing right back right
afterwards!

Hope to see you this weekend!!

A few of you have come in to look at the new Titanium Needle Gauges by Debra's Garden and mentioned that the photo I took before made the dainty shell like beauties were much bigger. Here is another picture with my well battered thumb in it to give you some perspective.

These are selling quickly! So come on in and pick out yours!

In today are the Eleggant Crochet Hooks. Interchangeable hooks and ergonomic handle. Great for crocheters with arthritis!

My hand to give it proportion.

Doesn't it look comfy!!?

August at Kniterary

You've seen them in Vogue and Interweave! Now they are at Kniterary! Debra's Garden Knitting needle sizers. They are beautiful! The holes go from 2mm to 10mm and will not wear down because they are made of titanium. The sizes are etched into the titanium so they will not wear off. So compact that you can wear them as a necklace or put them on your keychain. Each one comes in a colour coordinated organza bag like the one in the picture. They cost $15.99 each. What a perfect treat for yourself or gift for a fellow knitter!

There are also some new colours of Kureyon in and Mirasol Hacho. Come by and see the colours.

I have been knitting socks this summer along with other things. Problem is I am getting Single Sock Syndrome!

SEE!

I have been experimenting with short rowing on socks. The results are the 2 on the left of the photo. I love the idea of using up odd colours by doing short rows. The socks are based on the Rainbow Socks Pattern by Suzanne Kitzman. (Pattern is free on Ravelry). The sock that is 2 colours has been changed up a bit in proportion and I promise I will write the pattern! The sock on the right is out of Austermann Stepp. I love how my fingers feel when I am knitting with it! They are my hubby's birthday socks. I gave him the yarn and the promise of socks on his birthday in July.....I must get them done before the end of August!

I must find a way to get over this single sock syndrome!!! I know!!! I will take Vickies Magic Loop toe up sock class on November 29th!! Check out all the fall classes at Kniterary here.

Last (in this post) but not least I have been working on a Wedding Log Cabin Afghan. I am using 2 colours of Noro Silk Garden. Since it is a log cabin I started in the middle square and I am working out from there. A quick but luxurious knit. I think it will take 6 to 8 balls once the project is finished. So for around $80 and time spent enjoying the feel of knitting with Silk Garden I will have a wonderful wedding gift for a couple who loves colour. I am thinking of doing a class in it. If you are interested let me know.

Saturday September 27th Fiona Ellis is coming to teach 2 classes!
9AM - 12:15PM - Celtic Cables
1:15PM 4:30 PM - Fair Isle
Cost: $40 per class or both for $75. Drop in and Register today! Payment due on registration!

Spaces are filling up for the 2 Fiona Ellis classes on September 27th. Make sure to sign up soon. If you do not have her books yet order one or all when you sign up for the class and you will get 20% the price of the book(s). You will also be able to have Fiona sign it for you! You will have seen Fiona's designs before in Vogue Knitting, Interweave knits and in the new online magazine Twist Collective. Fiona has agreed to sign any downloads of her pattern from the premier issue as well. You will surely be inspired to knit one of her designs after spending time with Fiona so make sure to order your yarn so you can cast on right away!

And now my Kniterarian friends...I must do some sock knitting....no...log cabin...arg!

See you in the shop!

Defeating the UFOs and Sweater Knit-along

Cathy sent us a photo of her finished project from the Finishing Class held in July. You prepare the knit pieces using instructions provided, so that in the class you learn three needle bind off (shoulder finishing), attaching rows to stitches (box sleeves), the mattress stitch (sides and raglan sleeves), picking up stitches (button band, neck) are used to finish this tiny sweater (it fits a small teddy bear or a Barbie and are the exact same methods used to finish a baby, child or adult sweater.

Everyone leaves feeling they have learned something that will help them in knitting their future projects. It is a class that will remove any fear about leaping beyond scarves, or just give you more confidence in defeating UFOs!

There is so much enthusiasm that in September Kniterary will be having a Sweater Knit-along, every other Monday night. You will get help in choosing a pattern, selecting appropriate yarn, deciding how to knit the pieces so that finishing is easier, and then finishing. We should all be able to finish a cardigan from September to June.
